The  Pasadena  Playhouse Archives

The  past  is always present  here...

The Pasadena Playhouse Archives

About the Archives

Volunteers in the Archives  maintain The Playhouse collection of programs and photos going back to 1916 and
keep track of the publicity that the Playhouse and The Alumni of the Playhouse College of Theatre Arts receive.

They work on building a database for ready access to this information and respond to public inquiries  about the theatre’s history and the people who made it famous.

If you are interested in helping in the Archives or need more information, please call at
626.921.1162 or email archives@pasadenaplayhouse.org.

Ellen Bailey, The Playhouse’s “Archivist Extraordinaire"

Ellen Bailey was the founder of the Friends of The Pasadena Playhouse. She was a part of the theatre's history as a student, teacher and director for the Playhouse’s College of Theater Arts in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s.

In 1979, she established a team of volunteers to maintain The Playhouse archives. As a staff member, tour coordinator, docent, and volunteer archivist, she kept the theatre’s history alive as well as the passion for the performing arts in the community.

In December 2013, the Friends, Alumni, Playhouse Staff, and Board celebrated  Ellen's 90th birthday. To honor her outstanding work and dedication to The Pasadena Playhouse, the Archives Department was named the Ellen Bailey Archives.
